Steven Birnbaum grew up in Long Island, NY, and as the only son was surrounded by the women of the family and their ever changing fashion trends. For as far back as Steven can remember, he was paying attention to fabrics, details and styles. It was these interests that led him to his degree, from New York State University at New Paltz, in costume design.

As an award winning costume designer, Steven designed and assisted on many Broadway and Off-Broadway productions until he decided to join the world of fashion and ventured into a partnership to make custom bridal and evening wear. In the late 1980's & 1990's, Birnbaum produced all of Isaac Mizrahi's and Fernando Sanchez's evening wear and worked with such "Dance World" celebrities as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Twyla Tharp and Mark Morris on costume projects until joining forces with Robert Bullock.

Robert grew up on the coast of Mississippi and always showed interest in fashion. As a child Robert would sew clothes for his GI Joe while his mother sewed for herself. At age seventeen, Bullock moved to Atlanta and started making hats, jewelry and clothing for a local trendy store. In the late eighties Robert accepted a position designing doll clothing in New Orleans. From there he was commissioned to open a children's wear factory for a local company. In 1990 Bullock moved to New York and started "Robert Bullock Hats" which sold nationally to stores such as Barney's and Neiman Marcus. Frustrated with the compromises forced by ready-to-wear marketing, Bullock soon joined forces with Birnbaum to form one of the Bridal Industries most innovative new companies.

Freed of ready-to-wear's creative restrictions, Birnbaum & Bullock entered the Bridal Industry filled with a fresh perspective and a new respect for the needs of today's Bride. After researching and discovering that in the previous twenty years Bridal styles had changed very little, but the average ages of Brides had shifted from 19 - 25 to 29 - 35, Steven and Robert targeted their company to fill this rather large gap. Also, many of today's Brides are in their forties and obviously do not have the same needs that a 19 year old has.

Since their start, Birnbaum & Bullock have met with great success, never compromising on quality, style or sophistication. Birnbaum & Bullock are known for their unique and original embroideries that are exclusive to them and cannot be copied by any other company. They have the majority of their fabrics woven for them and further enhance their gowns by lining each one in silk fabric. Birnbaum & Bullock's gowns are for the Bride who wants to feel like she is as special as the occasion she is celebrating and is not willing to compromise.
